EDUCATION
Q: I really want to be a teacher. My spouse is in the military. If I become a teacher, will I be able to find jobs as we move around the US? Are some kinds of teachers in greater demand?
A: Teaching sounds like a good bet in terms of coming vacancies. While school enrolments are expected to grow over the next decade, the number of retiring teachers will also rise rapidly.
Shortages exist already in schools which are considered either "urban" or "rural" and especially in these subject areas: special education, math, and science. As far as moving around goes, teachers are certified by individual states. While many states have reciprocal agreements with others, this is not always the case. So you will need to check requirements every time you move, Don't be surprised if you need additional coursework in some states. -- Linda Byard
