Notes: Cards cut to A8 paper size can still sometimes be found In Victorian times a Visiting Card would vary between 3 3/8" x 2 1/2" and 2 1/4" X 1 3/8". The size and use of such cards was very dependent on Gender, Marital Status and other factors. The specification for International cards is ISO 7810 ID-1, this is the same dimensions as a standard credit card.

Folio, Quarto and Octavio: These are paper size terms indicating half-size, quarter size and eighth size respectively.

Foolscap: The reason why Foolscap is so called is that for several centuries many papermakers produced paper of this size with the watermark of a Jester's head. Strictly speaking what we normally refer to as Foolscap should be called Foolscap Folio. Foolscap at 81/2 X 131/2 is only slightly smaller than the US 'Legal' size. Foolscap is a lot less common in the countries where it was mainly in use; Europe, the UK and the English speaking nations excepting the USA.
